Highlights from the last assembly

CER Assembly December 2016

3rd – 4th December 2016, DJH Youth Hostel in Düsseldorf, Germany

The latest CER Regional Assembly in December saw 25 active AA members travelling from all across Europe to a youth hostel in cold and foggy Düsseldorf. We were fortunate to have service representatives from as far as Sweden, Hungary, Italy, Turkey, and Spain in attendance, along with 13 Region Officers.

On the first day, the assembly was presented with three proposals. The first of these was the revised “Welcome to Region” document entitled “CER – How it Works”, followed by the CER spending plan for 2017, and finally the 2.0 version of the CER brochure. All three proposals were approved to proceed.

We also heard a WebEx update from the Chair that assured us, although our response to the situation is precautionary, CER will still maintain services to the intergroups and groups in our region.

It was great to hear updates from the many active intergroups and groups, especially regarding their public information initiatives, conventions, and “Service & Sponsorship” workshops. We were also reminded that CER has many remote groups that look forward to having travelling AA members visit.

The Regional Officer reports were inspiring. A highlight included CER’s successful representation in September at the European Mental Health Conference in Prague. In addition we were informed by the delegates that the 2017 Conference Questions will be released in December. Answers will be sought from intergroups and groups at our next assembly in March for the delegates to take with them to Conference in April.

A new secretary was elected via CER’s service position rotation. Taking over for outgoing Secretary Jens V. is Matt S. (yours truly) from Munich. At this point, many thanks to Jens for all of his service! Currently, the positions of treasurer and third alternate delegate are vacant and nominations are being sought at the next assembly. Thankfully, Laura W. has agreed to continue on as treasurer until then. Thanks Laura!

The assembly was concluded with a lively inventory session conducted by David N. from South of France.

The next CER Assembly will be online on Sunday the 5th of March 2017. Log in details, along with the agenda, will be provided a few weeks in advance.

Please refer to the draft minutes for more detailed information and feel free to get in touch if you have any further queries.

Yours in service,

Matt S.
Secretary, Continental European Region
