Highlights from the last Regional Assembly

Hello CER Assembly!

This time round, beautiful Budapest was the venue for our quarterly Regional Assembly and our hosts were the fabulous Budapest English-speaking AA group. 33 members from all around CER joined us, including 12 Region Reps/GSRs and 16 Regional Officers. We were also fortunate to have the very first representative from the newly formed European Online Intergroup (EOI), Laura T., attend.

Assembling all the intergroups and/or groups in CER together allowed us to share experiences and best practices on the wide variety of active Twelfth Step services currently underway. We also heard detailed reports from the numerous Intergroups, and found out that a few have started using the new AAmail email service from GSO.

CER’s Officers have also been very active in service. For example: our new Treasurer who has, with the help of many members of both CER and CERES*, successfully completed the complicated handover; our PI Officer who reported on a very successful online workshop; our Health Liasion whose video report was not only informative but very amusing; and, our Archivist who is beginning work on a quarterly newsletter. The assembly also created two ad-hoc committees to work on both “Data Protection” and “Reach-out” activities. Joining these committees is a great way for newer members to get active in regional service right away. Also, a big thankyou to Dena A. from Luxembourg who conducted our inventory session, the results of which produced a wealth of experience and generated a few action items. More details can be found in the assembly minutes (attached).

Our “Super-Delegates” provided another comprehensive report, as well as a “sneak peek” at the Conference Questions 2018. They revealed many interesting and relevant Questions, of which CER no doubt has much experience that can be shared. Therefore, the Delegates are eagerly anticipating our responses at our next assembly in March. They will also be holding a webinar on February 17th 2018 from 10am-12pm (details here) – all members, particularly GSRs, are encouraged to attend.

Huge thanks go to Daniel H., our outgoing RECLO for all his incredible service work, and a warm welcome to Yvonne S. as our new RECLO. Also elected to office was Stan from Rhineland-Pfalz IG as our RASLO – congratulations! We look forward to serving with you both. Also, many thanks to Diana T., who is rotating out, for all her great service as our YPLO.

Don’t forget CER functions best when we have new members participating with us in service, so spread the word that we have a couple of service positions coming up; Young Persons Liaison Officer or YPLO, which will be voted on at the March assembly, as well as three Delegates to Conference, to be voted on in June. More information on the roles and responsibilities can be found in the service manuals online here.

The next quarterly Regional Assembly will be in Vienna from Saturday the 3rd of March to Sunday the 4th of March 2018 at the Jugendgästehaus. Go to our website to download your invitation (also attached), and check back a week or so before the assembly to download the agenda.

Yours in service,

Matt S.
